Prakash Padukone is the pioneer of Indian badminton. The first-ever Indian to win the All-England Badminton Championship back in 1980, he went on to collect over 20 international medals, including the Commonwealth Games and the World Cup, in his long and lustrous career. After receiving the pinnacle ranking of World No. 1, he was graced with one of the highest civilian awards in India, the Padma Shri. During his decade-long career, he also received the Arjuna Award, became the youngest player to ever win the Indian National Badminton Championship at 16, and then went on to break the records by winning nine (9) consecutive national championships.
